Studied treatment enalapril 20mg daily
Control treatment hydralazine 300 mg plus isosorbide dinitrate 160 mg daily

Exclusion criteriaMI or cardiac surgery in prior 3 months; angina limiting exercise; obstructive valvular disease; obstructive pulmonary disease
